Drivalia Portugal: helping the vision impairment condition through sport

/ MOBILITY FOR THE SOCIAL COMMUNITY

A major human disability that, for example, prevents driving vehicles is poor or no vision. But technology, in a future not too far, for sure will provide blind people, and related, to use cars for themselves. Drivalia’s mobility vision certainly can make part of that forthcoming.

Besides those exhilarating developments that future will or is already bringing with autonomous vehicles, the company in the meanwhile embraced the blindness cause, more explicitly through a goalball event, an exciting team sport developed specifically for athletes with visual impairments.

It was created in 1946 to help rehabilitate World War II veterans who had lost their sight. The sport is played by two teams of three players usually on an indoor court. The objective is to roll a ball with embedded bells past the opposing players and into their goal.

There are several goalball competitions including the European Champions League and the Paralympic Games. In the weekend 5th to 7th of September, the Goalball Grand Prix Odivelas 2025 tournament was held in Lisbon surroundings, Portugal.

Included in its Corporate Social Responsibility policy, and with the presence of Drivalia brand, the company supported that event which featured clubs from several European countries in a competition run by the EGCA European Goalball Club Association.

The admission was free, with live stream through YouTube, and after very competitive matches, the champion was the Finnish team Old Power (6-5 over the Portuguese team CAC).

Was a very successful Goalball Grand Prix!
